Charging Lithium-Ion Batteries Safely on Your Yosemite Trip

For your Yosemite trip, pack your devices’ original chargers and cables and follow the lithium-ion battery charging precautions reported by sfgate.com.

Preparing for a Yosemite trip also means thinking about the gear you'll need to recharge. According to sfgate.com, the National Park Service is currently warning about fire prevention for lithium-ion batteries. These guidelines cover choosing equipment, packing accessories, and plugging in your devices. We recommend including them in your trip planning alongside our Yosemite National Park guide.

When choosing your gear, look for products with a safety certification, following the recommendation reported by sfgate.com. The outlet also advises using the charger and cable that came with each device. As you pack, we recommend gathering those accessories for every device that needs them. Both the charger and the cable appear in the precautions the outlet shared.

Once you're there, charge your devices on a hard surface, as the NPS recommends, according to sfgate.com. You'll also need to watch for when charging finishes. According to the outlet, you should unplug each device as soon as its battery is fully charged. We recommend planning to unplug it as soon as you start charging.

Pay attention to how hot your device gets, too. Sfgate.com reports that you should stop using a device if it's hot. Keep this advice in mind during your visit along with the charging precautions.

If you're bringing an e-bike or electric scooter, sfgate.com reports that outdoor charging is recommended for these devices. We suggest planning for this when organizing your stay. As you get your gear ready, keep this separate recommendation for e-bikes and electric scooters in mind.
