Yosemite: Two Roads to Leave Off Your Itinerary for Now

Snow has temporarily closed Tioga Road and Glacier Point Road in Yosemite, so check road conditions before planning to use either road during your visit.

By Jocelyn Pion,

If your Yosemite plans include Tioga Road or Glacier Point Road, you'll need to adjust your itinerary. Both roads are currently closed due to snow. As you plan your drives, we recommend accounting for these closures instead of keeping a route that assumes both roads are open.

Pay particular attention to Tioga Road on your map. It's the continuation of Highway 120 through the park. If you've planned your route around this crossing, don't count on being able to make that drive. Check how the closure affects this part of your trip before you head out.

Glacier Point Road is also closed. As you plan, consider each road separately. An itinerary that avoids Tioga Road may still depend on Glacier Point Road. We recommend reviewing your planned drives and looking for both names on your map or in your notes.

For current conditions, call 209/372-0200, then select 1 and 1 again. This is the number the park provides for checking road conditions in Yosemite. Make that call part of your trip preparations, especially if your itinerary depends on either road.

The closures are temporary, but the available information doesn't include a reopening date. We recommend keeping your plans flexible without counting on either road reopening by a particular day of your trip.

For help planning your visit with these closures in mind, see the Yosemite National Park guide. You can review your itinerary with both roads in mind, then check conditions with the park before finalizing your driving plans.
