Pinnacles: What to Know Before You Build a Fire
Fire danger is currently high at Pinnacles. Here's where fires are allowed and what to keep in mind as you plan your visit.
By Jocelyn Pion,
If you're planning a visit to Pinnacles, fire danger is currently high. Think ahead about whether you'll need a fire during your visit. Before you pack your gear for a campground meal or a picnic, check whether fires are allowed where you're headed.
The alert doesn't mean all fires are banned. Fires are still permitted in the campground and designated picnic areas. Plan to build a fire only in the places the NPS identifies. We don't have enough information to list those locations here, so we can't point you toward a specific area.

The main thing to plan for is what you'll need to do before leaving: you must completely extinguish your fire. Allow enough time for this step instead of treating it as a quick task between activities. If your schedule means you'll need to leave quickly, consider a meal that doesn't require a fire. It's a simple way to keep your day flexible.
For help planning the rest of your stay, see our guide to Pinnacles National Park. Keep fire safety in mind as you choose where to stop and decide what to pack.
The alert doesn't include an end date. We're describing the current conditions without suggesting when fire danger might drop. Check NPS guidance as your visit approaches so you can adjust your plans based on the latest information.
