Grand Canyon: Point Imperial Road Closed, North Rim Without Services
The road to Point Imperial stays closed through November 3, 2026, and the Grand Canyon's North Rim no longer offers water, fuel, or services.
By Jocelyn Pion,
If you're planning a getaway to the Grand Canyon's North Rim in the coming weeks, here's an update that will reshape your plans. The park's wildest and highest section is entering its seasonal closure, and two of its finest overlooks just got harder to reach.
In concrete terms, the road connecting Cape Royal to Point Imperial is closed from October 15 through November 3, 2026. Point Imperial is the highest overlook on the entire North Rim, and it's exactly the one cut off during this window. If that view was on your list, you're better off pushing the visit back or planning another stop.

The other piece of news is broader and deserves your full attention. As of October 15, 2026, the North Rim no longer offers any services, fuel, or drinking water. In other words, you won't find a gas station, supplies, or a water source up there. That's how the area normally works as winter closes in, when the elevation and snow force everything into hibernation.
Our advice is simple. Show up with a full tank of gas, plenty of water, and enough to keep yourself self-sufficient. Pack warm clothes too, because it's noticeably colder up here than on the South Rim. To plan the rest of your trip and understand what sets the two rims apart, lean on our Grand Canyon park guide.
This North Rim closure actually fits nicely into a longer trip. If you're traveling by RV, take a look at our road trip itinerary that runs through this park to map out your stops and fuel-ups accordingly.
