Is the grand canyon skywalk worth it? What to Know Before You Pay
Grand Canyon West or the South Rim? Compare the experience, total costs, and drive from Las Vegas before booking your Skywalk tickets.

Is the grand canyon skywalk worth it? Arizona's glass walkway promises a very specific thrill: stepping out with the canyon beneath your feet. It sits at Grand Canyon West, on Hualapai land, outside Grand Canyon National Park. We recommend it if walking on glass is the experience you want, provided you're comfortable with the cost and a full day's outing from Las Vegas. For a first trip focused on national parks, we'd still choose the South Rim.
Grand Canyon West or the South Rim: What Kind of Visit Do You Want?
The Grand Canyon Skywalk is at Eagle Point, in western Arizona. Grand Canyon West is owned and operated by the Hualapai Tribe. You'll be entering tribal land with its own ticketing system.

The South Rim is the southern rim of Grand Canyon National Park, managed by the National Park Service. Grand Canyon West is not another entrance to that park. The America the Beautiful pass does not cover admission to Grand Canyon West or access to the Skywalk.
| Factor | Grand Canyon West | South Rim |
|---|---|---|
| Land and management | Hualapai land, tribally operated | National park, managed by the NPS |
| Main experience | Glass walkway and canyon views | Overlooks, walks, and hiking |
| Admission | Separate ticketing system | Park entrance fee or eligible pass |
| Role in your trip | Day trip from Las Vegas | Stop on a national parks itinerary |
The key question is simple: do you want to walk on glass or visit Grand Canyon National Park? You may want both, but they require two separate trips. There is no direct road that lets you simply follow the rim from one site to the other.
We advise against choosing a ticket just because it says “Grand Canyon.” A tour to Grand Canyon West won't take you to the South Rim. If you're planning several stops on federal land, read up on how the America the Beautiful pass works as well.
How Much Does the Skywalk Cost, and Which Ticket Should You Choose?
As of October 24, 2026, the operator lists the All-Access Pass at $99 and the Sunset Pass at $59. Both include the Skywalk. Applicable taxes and fees are extra, so the advertised price is not your final booking total.
General Admission, listed at $67, does not include the glass walkway. Don't buy it if walking on glass is the reason for your trip.
| Ticket | Advertised price as of October 24, 2026 | Skywalk | Main advertised inclusions |
|---|---|---|---|
| All-Access Pass | $99, plus taxes and fees | Yes | Eagle Point, Guano Point, Hualapai Point, shuttles, and advertised activities |
| Sunset Pass | $59, plus taxes and fees | Yes | Entry after 3 p.m., Eagle Point, Guano Point, and shuttles |
| General Admission | $67, plus taxes and fees | No | Trails, Hualapai storytelling and exhibits, singing, and dancing |
Prices may vary by date. Check the inclusions for your selected ticket and the checkout total before paying.
For two adults at the advertised rate, All-Access comes to $198 before taxes and fees, compared with $118 for Sunset. For four adults, those starting totals are $396 and $236, respectively. Add transportation, meals, and any professional photos. These calculations are not family rates.
All-Access also advertises two discounts: $10 off a food purchase of at least $20 per person at participating locations, and $10 off a merchandise purchase of at least $20 per person. These perks do not take $20 off admission. Buying a souvenir to use a discount is still an extra expense.
Sunset saves $40 per adult at the advertised prices, but requires arrival after 3 p.m. We'd choose it only if you're comfortable with a shorter visit and have checked the closing time. All-Access is a better fit for a day without that time constraint.
Consider this expense within your overall U.S. road trip budget. A cheaper ticket doesn't necessarily make up for an overly tight schedule.
Walk on Glass, Then Take In the Views
The horseshoe-shaped walkway extends beyond the rocky edge. It projects about 0.013 miles and is roughly 0.002 miles wide. The transparent floor feels different from a conventional overlook: you look straight down between your shoes.
This experience isn't for everyone. If the glass intrigues you as much as it makes you nervous, consider whether you'd be comfortable paying even if you don't walk the entire loop. We advise against making it a mandatory challenge for someone who's afraid of heights.
Open to the public since March 28, 2007, the Skywalk is a tourist attraction on Hualapai land. We prefer to judge the outing by the time spent exploring the whole site, rather than the glass walk alone.
Eagle Point offers views of the rock formations surrounding the walkway. Guano Point provides another perspective on the canyon. Both stops are included with All-Access and Sunset.
Allow time for getting around and enjoying the overlooks. Arriving late may mean choosing between waiting for the Skywalk and spending more time at Guano Point. Access to the walkway remains subject to availability, even when your ticket includes it.
From Las Vegas: Allow a Full Day
From Las Vegas, allow roughly 124 miles and 2 to 2.5 hours of driving each way, depending on your starting point and traffic. On a page updated in 2019, the NPS gives a distance of 122 miles and a drive of about 2 hours and 15 minutes from downtown. The operator estimates about two hours.
The route passes through the Boulder City area before joining Pierce Ferry Road and Diamond Bar Road. You don't need to drive all the way down to Kingman before turning off.
For planning purposes, we allow four to five hours of round-trip driving, excluding breaks. Add roughly half a day on-site for the views, walkway, getting around, and a meal. With that schedule, it makes sense to keep your evening flexible.
You'll leave your vehicle in the parking lot. Private cars aren't allowed between attractions: hop-on, hop-off shuttles, included with All-Access and Sunset, connect the stops. Don't plan to drive directly to each overlook.
If you're taking an organized tour, check how much time you'll have on-site and whether the Skywalk is explicitly included. Transportation to Grand Canyon West alone does not guarantee access to the walkway.
From Grand Canyon Village, the NPS estimates a drive of roughly 249 miles and five hours on its 2019 page. Check the route again before setting out. We advise against treating this drive as a quick detour during a South Rim visit.
As of October 24, 2026, the general posted hours are an 8 a.m. opening, final ticket sales at 4:30 p.m., and a 6 p.m. closing, with seasonal adjustments. Check the hours for your date, especially if you're buying a Sunset Pass.
Check the local time in Arizona, too. If this outing makes your schedule too crowded, compare other excursions from Las Vegas.
Photos, Children, and Booking: Rules to Know
Phones and personal belongings. The operator's published policy allows phones on the Skywalk at your own risk. Cameras, purses, and backpacks are prohibited on the glass. Free lockers are available for storing them. Shoes are required, and shoe covers protect the glass floor.
Souvenir photos. You can therefore take pictures with your phone. Professional photography is optional, and those images are sold separately unless your ticket explicitly includes them. We don't use any outdated photo prices when budgeting.
Children. Children who can walk independently may use the walkway. Those who cannot yet walk may be carried by an adult. Strollers are prohibited on the Skywalk. Check the ticket categories and promotions that apply to your group before paying.
Accessibility. The operator advertises an elevator in the Skywalk terminal and shuttles that accommodate manual and powered wheelchairs. Conditions still vary along the paths: some areas near the canyon are unpaved. Ask for details about a route that meets your needs.
Cancellation and weather. The published general policy allows cancellation without penalty up to 48 hours before the selected date, with possible exceptions depending on the services booked. It does not guarantee an automatic refund if weather prevents access to the Skywalk. Read the terms of your purchase.
The operator identifies 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. as the Skywalk's busiest period. We recommend arriving in the morning with All-Access, though that doesn't guarantee you won't have to wait in line.
Our Take: Glass From Las Vegas, the South Rim for a Parks Trip
First national parks trip. We'd choose the South Rim if your priority is to take in the Grand Canyon and walk in the national park. We advise against adding Grand Canyon West as a quick way to “complete” the visit: the federal pass doesn't work there, and the NPS estimates about five hours of driving from Grand Canyon Village.
Couple staying in Las Vegas. We recommend the Skywalk when both of you want to walk on glass. All-Access gives you more scheduling flexibility, with an advertised starting total of $198 for two adults before taxes and fees. Sunset brings that total down to $118, but only after 3 p.m. We'd choose the second option if the schedule still works with the closing time.
Families or travelers on a tight budget. We advise against buying tickets out of casual curiosity when some people in your group aren't interested in the walkway. Four All-Access tickets at the advertised rate total $396 before fees, transportation, and meals. If you're bringing children, check the actual checkout total first. Count the shopping and dining discounts as savings only if you already planned those purchases. The $67 General Admission ticket doesn't work for a group coming for the Skywalk.
