Denali Park Road now open to the Teklanika River

Good news if you're planning a trip to Denali: the park road is currently open to Mile 30, roughly 30 miles in from the entrance, at the Teklanika River. That's the farthest point you can drive right now, and it shapes a lot of what you'll be able to see on the ground.
Here's why that matters so much. At Denali, the single road into the park never opens along its full length all at once. Knowing how far it's drivable tells you how far your view and your chances to get out and explore will reach. The Teklanika River stretch, all gravel bars and wide banks, is still a great place to watch for wildlife. Animals cross this corridor freely, and the mountain backdrop is already spectacular.

One safety note worth keeping in mind. Heavy equipment is working on the park road right now. Stay alert, keep your speed down, and watch for construction vehicles around the bends. That goes for your own car as much as for the shuttle.
In practical terms, plan your day around those 30 miles. Fill up the tank, bring water, and pack layers to stay warm. Past the Teklanika, cell service and amenities thin out fast. A picnic by the river with binoculars close at hand is still the best way to enjoy this stretch.
To plan the rest of your trip, sort out your timing, and understand how access works, you'll find everything in the Denali park guide. Since the road opening shifts as the season goes on, check the access status right before you head out. That's the habit that'll save you a nasty surprise at the entrance.
