Indiana Dunes: Two Trails Under Construction Through Late 2026

If you're planning a hike at Indiana Dunes, have a backup plan ready for two of the park's marquee routes. Construction on the Marquette Greenway, the big regional trail, means section-by-section closures on two heavily used trails. Nothing dramatic, but enough to throw off a tightly planned itinerary.

First up is the Glenwood Dunes Trail. Sections will be closed from April through December 2026 while the work moves along. The second is the Little Calumet River Trail, which also runs along Mnoké Prairie; there, closures stretch from May through December 2026. In both cases, the whole network isn't shutting down, just portions that become off-limits as construction advances.

One thing worth keeping in mind as you plan is that these dates aren't set in stone. The park notes they can shift with the pace of the work. In other words, a section that's open one day may be blocked the next, and vice versa. So don't rely on a screenshot you took weeks earlier.

The best practice on the ground is simple. Always follow the signs posted at the entrances and intersections. Those signs, updated as close to real time as possible, are what count on the day you show up.
